I haven't given much thought to bandanas - they bring back memories of the Bad Hair 80's, most of which I wish I could forget. Anyway, came across this and figured maybe I should pack a few, 'cause I don't.
'Tis some good ideas, no? Handy as a Swiss Army Knife (SAK). Is there anything you pack that you always find comes in handy or has many uses?

i don't hike a lot (except for right here on run*a*round) but i carry a supertool, zipties and bungie cords in my car all the time.
ReplyDeleteI don't know the reason why, but I've never taken the packing the car thing seriously enough to do it. Most likely, it's because I'm an idiot. I really need to.
Deleteand towels, a big stick, dog leashes and dog biscuits in the trunk, too. :) (had a bad habit of stopping for strays - hard to let that go...)
ReplyDeleteA towel is very handy!!! And have you read Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy? Thanks for stopping in and commenting - take care!
DeleteThere are some very diverse uses in that list some of which I wouldn't want the bandana back!
ReplyDeleteI hope they are cheap!?! Thanks for dropping in.
DeleteI carry a Buck knife with the case upside down. It's intent is to cut fishing line (if you've tried to get a Buck knife out with the case the correct way, it's almost impossible) if you happen to get a hook stuck through your finger like I did. A switch blade would work better, but the police don't see the humor of carrying one.
ReplyDeleteCool idea, Mark. Sometimes unfortunate experience pays! Thinking about it, I would have a hard time getting at my knife if something happened to my right hand. I'll work on this.
DeleteI always have a couple of bandana with me for various reasons. Great list. I carry a bunch of stuff, but the things I find getting used again and again are bandages, heavy duty trash bags for sitting on wet ground, knife, clear sport goggles, headlamp, stuff sacks for bringing back morels, skulls, etc. Everything else is for those " just in case" moments.

Excellent list, Bill. I need to pack more trash bags, especially for the sitting down. Can't take enough for all the trash I find.....The band-aids and triple anti-biotic ointment get their frequent use around me, also!
DeleteThat's an impressive list- and some other good ideas-I keep meaning to bring a plastic bag to sit on.
ReplyDeleteGathering ideas will for sure come in handy for this wanderer. Thanks for stopping by, John.
